Landline Monitoring Disclaimer
Applies to: LANDLINE SERVICE / PLAIN OLD TELEPHONE SERVICE (POTS). LOSS OF OR CHANGES TO THE COMMUNICATIONS METHOD MAY/WILL INTERFERE WITH YOUR SECURITY/LIFE SAFETY SYSTEM COMMUNICATION TO THE MONITORING CENTER.
In almost all cases your security/life safety system relies on proper operation of the telephone line, and its associated special security wiring, to reliably communicate alarm signals to the central monitoring station. Plain old telephone service (POTS), commonly referred to as “landline,” was once one of the most reliable and least expensive methods to monitor a security system.
Landline phone service providers utilize a wire to transmit voice and data. This includes alarm signal data. To improve the efficiency and cost of transmitting data the phone service providers will periodically, and without prior warning, adjust the communications pathway or method to transmit data. Even though the customer may not notice an impact to voice quality, the adjustments may create an incompatible pathway for the alarm to transmit its signals. This then prevents or negatively affects the alarm system in transmitting alarm data to the monitoring center. The duration of the interruption is unknown and both Allied and the Customer are dependent on the phone service company to address the problem.
*The alarm system will still work “locally” which means if the system is activated due to an intrusion, fire, etc. the siren installed at the location will sound.
Disclaimer: Unless the customer has subscribed to Supervised reporting services/timer tests, Allied and the Monitoring Center may not be alerted by landline telephone service providers as to changes in service transmission methods. It is the Customer’s responsibility to advise Allied that there may be a communication failure. Once Allied is aware of the communication failure, during normal business hours we will work directly with the telephone service provider to alert them to the problem. It is then up to the telephone service provider to remedy the problem. There is no guarantee as to when or if the telephone service provider will fix the issue.
