SUMMARY: Under minimal supervision, performs journeyman level locksmith work including but not limited to: Installing, maintaining and repairing locks & safes, duplication of keys, maintaining master key systems, and installation of all lock types and related door hardware.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Installs, repairs, and adjusts locks and other hardware on doors, windows, gates, and accessible areas.
• Disassembles and re-assembles locks such as padlocks, safe locks, and door locks; repairs and replaces worn tumblers, springs, and other parts.
• Uses lock picks in cylinders and other methods and techniques to open locks without keys.
• Services, adjusts, or replaces all types of door closers.
• Cuts new or duplicate keys and stamps with identification, changes pin keying, removes and installs cores.
• Services, repairs, and installs exit devices, panic hardware, and other door related hardware.
• Determines the correct lock systems to be installed at a variety of facilities.
• Manually operates a key code cutting machine.
• Interprets Master keying Guide; Uses appropriate discretion and special knowledge of lock systems to preserve the integrity of master key systems while meeting customer requests.
• Estimates time and material costs on proposed projects.
• Opens safe locks by drilling, manipulation, or other means.
• Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and works cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
• Makes emergency repairs of locks and opens doors and autos as required.
• Maintains written records including, but not limited to timesheets, work orders, inventory control documentation, and records of work performed.
• Plans work to ensure cost effective use of labor and materials.
• Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety.
• Maintains an acceptable attendance record, is punctual, and meets deadlines.
• Performs other duties as assigned within the normal scope of the department's responsibilities and the individual's capabilities in support of customer's needs.

 This position is open in all of Allied's Northwest Branches.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must maintain valid Washington State Driver's license and be insurable by company insurance.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
