Securing community schools

Security in K-12 schools has become a priority for many school boards across the country. The challenges faced in implementing a security management system for an entire district includes a continuum of strict requirements for elementary and middle school facilities, to the more open environment of a high school campus.

Many school districts are spread out over several miles, making it even harder to coordinate safety, security and administration among multiple sites. Centralizing monitoring efforts at a single school facility is efficient and secures each school within a district without taking up valuable instruction space, in addition to distributing the cost of a system across an entire district.

A security management system, utilizing access control and video surveillance, streamlines staff entry, visitor management, and vending and controlled access areas across an entire district.

Access control reduces problems such as vandalism, theft, arson and unwanted student activity in isolated areas. Access control management also ensures that all visitors enter and exit through indicated entrances, and provides a safer building for after-hours events and for faculty working after hours.

Cameras installed in high traffic areas remind students and visitors they are being watched and recorded at all times. Students are less likely to misbehave if they know they are being monitored.

Proper visitor management practices keep out unwanted perpetrators and your school safe. Temporary badges are provided to visitors so staff know they are authorized guests.
