Don't be a victim

Identity Theft is the fastest growing crime in America, claiming 40,000 new victims every day in the U.S. alone. Losses emanating from identity theft totaled $56.6 billion in 2005, 3.5 times greater than aggregate losses of $16.2 billion from all other property crimes (burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft).
Here are some other ways to protect yourself against identity theft:
- Check your credit report at least annually.
- Limit information on personal checks.
- Be cautious providing personal information to others.
- Place outgoing mail inside post office collection points.
- Don't use ATM's at gas stations or convenience stores.
- Monitor your accounts and statements
